Quantum Foundations III · Lesson 6
The Open Questions
QM3 begins with relational sector reconstruction.
Three questions come first, in order.
Each one only makes sense if the one before it holds.
Relational sector reconstruction
- Q2(a)Does more than one invariant sector exist?Existence comes first.OPEN
- Q2(b)If sectors exist, are they canonically selected?Chosen by the structure, or by hand?OPEN
- Q2(c)If sectors exist, is the decomposition unique? One arrangement, or many?OPEN
The Coupling Obstruction
Only after the reconstruction questions are answered does the coupling problem arise.
What mathematical structure could allow interaction while preserving meaningful sectors?
Think like a researcher
Choose a direction to see what it would cost.
Looking back
- ✓We looked at one sector.
- ✓We supposed several sectors.
- ✓We identified why coupling is unavailable under exact invariance.
- ✓The next step is still unknown.
Established Conditionally
Assuming multiple invariant sectors exist and compatible embeddings are available:
- •Sector-preserving transport is block-diagonal.
- •Relative phase can evolve between fixed sector components.
- •Off-diagonal coupling terms are unavailable.
- •The inaccessible coupling dimensions number n² − n.
Still Open
- •Existence of multiple sectors.
- •Canonicity and uniqueness.
- •Existence and compatibility of sector embeddings.
- •Adequacy of exact invariance.
- •Origin of inter-sector coupling.
These are research questions, not conclusions.
QM3 does not claim to solve how sectors interact. Instead, it identifies exactly why interaction is difficult under the current definition of an invariant sector. That becomes the next mathematical problem for the research programme.
The later relational reconstruction studies generator independence and the decomposition of transport across generating structures. Those results help clarify how transport can be represented, but they do not by themselves establish the existence of the multiple sectors supposed in QM3.
The current reconstruction adopts an identification between the relevant configuration structure and the realised relational structure at the appropriate stage (BP5: C = P in the corresponding formalism).
This is part of the later architectural alignment and is not a theorem proved by QM3.
The later foundational analysis distinguishes abstract admissible structures from a realised stage of the reconstruction. QM3 should be interpreted on an appropriate realised configuration structure once that structure has been supplied by the preceding foundation.
The realised-stage construction belongs to the deeper foundation programme rather than to QM3 itself.
The current foundation programme obtains a realised-stage construction conditionally once an appropriate finite canonical selection principle is supplied. It is not claimed that PDT0 uniquely derives the realised stage, nor that a finite canonical selection principle has been derived from PDT0.
